Andreas Weimann has declared he still has too much left in me after signing for Cheltenham Town in the summer. The 35-year-old striker joined the League Two club as a free agent following his release from Derby County in May.
Weimann spent the second half of last season on loan with Rapid Vienna but returned to the UK to be closer to his wife and children, who remained in Britain during his time in Austria. He said his home is now in the UK after being there a long time and wanted to play somewhere convenient for travel, regardless of league or competition.
A conversation with manager Steve Cotterill, whom he knew from his time at Bristol City, convinced him to join Cheltenham Town. Weimann has played in all four of the club's league games so far this season and started the past two matches.
He recorded an assist in the win at York City and believes he touched the ball that led to Jake Evans' goal in Cheltenham Town's 2-1 victory over Rotherham. Evans, a Leicester City loanee, scored his first goal for the club in that game, and Weimann told him he felt the ball before it went in, noting there is only one camera angle of the incident.
Weimann is confident goals will come as he continues to play, saying he is making the right movements and is in the box. He hopes teammates will learn his runs and he will learn their passes in return.
Speaking to BBC Radio Gloucestershire, which offers pre-match, post-match and topical content via BBC Sounds, Weimann reflected on his longevity in the game. He said: "I've had so many team-mates now that have retired, and basically everyone says the same thing, 'If you can still play, keep playing because you are a long time retired.'" He added: "I've definitely still got that desire to play."
